DE-OBSOLETION
Shelve
Year: January, 2025
We live in a time when products are designed to become outdated.
This series asks: what if we could break that cycle?
We start with discarded, mass-produced parts — things that once mattered, now left behind — and remake them with the attention of craftsmanship and design.
The result is familiar yet transformed, holding both history and new purpose.

Once, IKEA JUTIS DVD racks and speaker stands held precious collections. Now, we’ve rebuilt them into a flexible shelving system that adapts to its space and user. Each shelf is reinforced with resin-embedded plywood, coloured boldly, and finished by hand — a quiet protest against disposable design.

Built upon discontinued IKEA Axis DVD racks, giving new life to obsolete components through upcycling.

A custom-designed slide-and-lock mechanism enables tool-free construction—no screws, no hard-ware required.

Each resin shelf is reversible and attachable in multiple orientations, allowing for dynamic rearrangement. This flexibility defines varying volumes, voids, and product heights across the shelving.
